- INTRODUCTION
- =============
-
- The year is 2023. The government is now run more like a business as
- federal bankruptcy and the small corporate skirmishes of the early 21st
- century forced America to tighten its fiscal belt. Cuts and closings
- were prevalent among many national programs including welfare, social
- security, and foreign aid. For a while, however, one black hole remained
- that sucked money from the people - the prison system. Desperate plans
- called for desperate measures, and a plan was soon born to turn the
- prison system into at least a break even proposition - the Russian
- Roulette National Gaming System.
-
- With national gambling at an all time high, the plan was simple and
- foolproof. All national prisoners were offered a chance to be released,
- no matter what crime they committed or how long their sentence was. The
- catch was that they had to participate in a match of Russian Roulette along
- with 3 other convicts. The three losers die, the winner walks a free man.
- The games are broadcast on national television and all viewers are welcome to
- place bets during the event, with the government receiving their small
- house advantage, of course.
-
- As a home viewer, you get to watch the action of the Russian Roulette
- contests unfold as the prisoners participate in a desperate attempt at
- freedom. Place bets in the comfort of your own home and view along with
- your friends and family members. Let the games begin!

- MAIN MENU SCREEN OPTIONS
- =========================
-
- 1. PLAY A GAME - How to play a game will be explained fully in the Gameplay
- section that follows the Main Menu Screen Options section. All the details
- on how to play a game will be explained.
-
- 2. GAME OPTIONS - This is where several of the game options can be set.
- Following is an explanation of each:
-
- Tournament play: Selecting 'yes' sets up the game in a tournament format.
- A tournament is where all 16 convicts play in 4 matches of 4 people each,
- and the winners of each match play each other in a final match for
- freedom. Matches are set up randomly. Selecting 'no' here sets up play
- for one match for each gameplay, where the convicts are randomly selected.
- Tournament play works for registered versions only.
-
-
- Spin chamber: Selecting 'yes' means that the chamber is spun before each
- shot is taken, meaning that there is an 1/8th a chance of a bullet being
- in the shooting chamber before each shot. Selecting 'no' means that the
- chamber is never spun, so there can never be more than 8 shots taken
- before someone dies. This works for registered versions only.
-
- music on/sound on: Toggles on and off the music and the sounds.
-
- Use hollowpoint bullet % of time: This is a percentage of the time that
- a hollowpoint bullet is used. 100% means that a hollowpoint bullet is
- always used. 0% means one will never be used. Anything in between is
- a random percentage of usage for hollowpoint bullets. This is for
- registered users only.
-
- 3. ADD NEW BETTOR - Add the bettors name, followed by the starting money that
- the bettor is going to have. A limit of 10 bettors can be entered, with
- each one being able to bet during gameplay.
-
- 4. DELETE BETTOR - Click on the name of the bettor that you would like to
- delete. Enter 'yes' to confirm the deletion of the bettor, click 'no'
- to keep him.
-
- 5. DISPLAY BETTOR STATS - Display the betting stats of each of the bettors.
-
- 6. DISPLAY PLAYER STATS - Displays the stats of all of the players. In real
- life they wouldn't be able to play more than one tournament if they died,
- but hey, where would the fun be that way?
- By clicking on Reset all the player stats are set to 0, effectively
- starting a new 'season' for all the convicts. Scroll through the four pages
- of convicts by clicking the Pgup and Pgdn keys. Shareware versions are
- limited to one page of information.
-
- 7. DISPLAY PLAYER BIOS - This will display the biographies of each of the
- convicts, how many people they murdered and what their sentence was.
- Scroll 1 or 4 convicts at a time by clicking the 4 movement keys.
-
-
- PLAYING A GAME
- ==============
-
- A game can consist of either one round, or 5 rounds if tournament mode was
- selected. A round consists of all the convicts involved taking turns pulling
- the trigger at their head until only one convict remains. He is considered
- the winner of the round. If tournament mode is selected, then 4 rounds are
- played with the 16 different convicts, followed by one final 'winners round'
- that consists of the winners of the 4 previous rounds. The chamber of the
- gun may or may not be spun after each shot taken depending on the 'spin
- chamber' selection made in the 'game options' section of the game.
-
- During the course of the game there are several selections that can be made
- with either the mouse or the keyboard. These selections are as follows:
-
- - Left click the mouse: This causes the convict with the gun to hold the
- gun to his head and pull the trigger. Left clicking the mouse anywhere
- on the screen will cause this to happen.
-
- - Pressing the 'b' key on the keyboard: This will show a display of how
- well the bettors are doing, spanning from the previous shot through to
- the entire tournament.
-
- - Pressing the 'q' key on the keyboard: This will show a display of all
- the bets that are currently in the bet queue. Any bet that has been
- made and has not yet been resolved will be in the bet queue. A
- maximum of 60 bets can be in the queue at any one time.
-
- - Pressing the F1 key brings up a help screen.
-
- -Right click on one of the convicts: Brings up the 2 displays that enable
- you to bet on the player that you clicked on. If you plan on betting the
- over/under then you can right click on any of the living convicts.
- To place a bet you must enter 3 pieces of information:
- 1. Left click on any of the bettors to enter as the placer of the bet.
- 2. Left click on any of the valid bets that can be made. If the odds
- say 'no odds' then you cannot make that bet at that time. A red
- arrow next to a bet signifies that this is the bet being made.
- 3. Left click to the right of 'Enter Bet Amount:' and enter the amount,
- in dollars, that the bettor plans on betting. This amount must be
- equal to or less than the amount of money that the bettor has.
- To enter the bet in the queue, either right click or press the ENTER key.
- To exit the bet screen at any time without entering the bet into the
- queue simply press the ESC key.
- Pressing the F1 key will bring up a betting help screen.
- Following is an explanation of the bets that can be made:
- -Live this round: Player selected will win this round. Bet must be made
- before the start of the round.
- -Die this round: Player will not win this round. Bet must be made before
- the start of the round.
- -Live this bullet: Player must survive the bullet currently in the gun.
- -Die this bullet: Player must die from the bullet currently in the gun.
- -Live this shot: Player must live from the current shot about to be
- made. Bet must be made only on convict currently with the gun.
- -Die this shot: Player must die from the current shot about to be made.
- Bet must be made only on convict currently with the gun.
- -Live this tournament: Player must win the tournament. Bet must be made
- at the start of any of the 4 rounds.
- -Over/under this bullet/round: An over under bet made based on the total
- amount of shots it takes for either the current bullet in the gun or
- the entire round. If for the bullet, bet must be made with each new
- bullet. If for the round, bet must be made at the start of the round.
